Stress Incontinence - Incontilase

Stress Urinary Incontinence (SUI) is a common issue among women that causes unintentional urination, for example, when coughing, sneezing, and laughing or from physical exercise. SUI is caused by weakening of the urethral closure mechanism resulting in changes in the pelvic floor area. This weakening may be caused by birth, obesity, and aging.

Traditionally, SUI has been treated non-invasively with muscular training, otherwise known as Kegel (pelvic floor muscle training) exercises. However, the success is dependent on daily compliance to such training. SUI can also be treated surgically with a Urethral Sling. This procedure requires hospital time, recovery time and has the potential to cause serious complications.

Our Treatments

Our non-invasive Fotona Laser treatment for Stress Urinary Incontinence has a photothermal heating effect on collagen in both the vaginal walls and the urethra, which causes restructuring and regrowth of the collagen. This results in thickening and tightening of the vaginal walls and urethra to improve atrophy and prevent urine loss.

All Clients should have had a recent (within 2 years) pelvic exam and cervical smear with their own doctor or gynaecologist.  Patients should not currently suffering from a urinary or vaginal infection, have no menstrual bleeding at the time of the treatment, should not be pregnant, not a heavy smoker, not obese a BMI <33 is best.

A special attachment, similar to a speculum as used for a pap smear test, is inserted into the vagina and during which the entire vaginal region is treated with short laser pulses through a small handpiece. Usually, 3 treatments are required.

Post-treatment you can leave immediately and continue with your usual daily routine. There may be some minimal sensitivity after the procedure and some clear discharge for 2-3 days post-treatment. Sexual Intercourse is not recommended for 1 week after the procedure.

It is a simple 15-minute procedure and is highly effective, pain-free and safe.
